It has been announced that idol group AKB48 will be performing at Anime Expo 2010. They will hold a concert at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on July 1. They will also participate in panels, meet-and-greets, and autograph sessions. As to which members of AKB48 will be going is still a mystery. Bandai Opens Gundam Café in Akihabara!

Gundam fans can be pretty happy to know that in April 24 (last saturday), Bandai opened a Gundam Café in Akihabara. It contains a lot of unique stuff from the series, from gashapons and statues to simple Gundam-based decorations.

The place was highly appraised mainly for its decorations and menu, which serves mixed stuff including waffles, cakes, drinks, chocolates, coffee...and all with a "Gundam mark" over it. Below are some pictures of the place, and also a Gundam-shaped snack from there.
Isn't this place tempting? Let's all meet up at the Gundam Café! ^_^ Main Source:  http://en.akihabaranews.com

Most Amazing Haruhi Fan Animation

Fans of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya might like to read about this. Some fans have created a cross-over animation based in the series with Invader Zim, simulating a possible invasion of the aliens from that series. The combination was actually pretty good and by the trailer (that you'll see below) they seem to be promising a great series ahead.

The series have no official title yet. Featured characters include Suzumiya Haruhi, Zim, Kyon, Gir, Itsuki, Dib, Nagato, Gaz, Mikuru, Tak and others.

    New Anime Coming Up: Chinka

It seems that a blogger from dannychoo.com has created a new anime project studio named Mirai Fusion,  and it seems they have a brand new anime in production. Its name is Chinka (in kanji means something like "put out a fire").

Resume of Story: Since a few years ago, there have been many cases of arson. In the rural town of Kiyotaki, situated in a beautiful mountain valley, the town folks are talking about the legendary arsonist, Akaneko. The police have completely given up on Akaneko, who has slipped through their fingers every time. The town's only hope is its one and only firefighting team - the Mizuneko Fire Brigade.  But because of their destructive fire fighting ways, they too are feared by the town folk. Almost every night, Akaneko and the Mizuneko Fire Brigade fight fiercely, taking down many of the town's buildings in the process. The Mizuneko Fire Brigade have depleted most of the town's financial resources so the town ends up on the verge of bankruptcy. The town was in a critical state when Chinka, a girl with a superhuman ability to smell out fires appears. With her powers, the Mizuneko Fire Brigade close in on the true identity of Akaneko... Now here are some pictures of the main character, Chinka.
Doesn't she look adorable? So are we ready or not to know all about Chinka? More information via dannychoo.com.

Personal Trip: Bairro da Liberdade (Liba)

During last week I went to São Paulo with my family, and I wanted to go specially because of a certain place: it's the Bairro da Liberdade (literally Freedom neighborhood in portuguese), nicknamed Liba by brazilians. Well, thing is, this place has many japanese people who came from migration decades ago, and is where they set up their homes. They currently use it to spread some of their culture of commerce, and that's the part I love.

Liba is known by most brazilians as the source of japanese food, animes and mangas, as well as accessories and a bit of culture in overall. Unfortunately, coreans and chinese people have been coming to the same place and kind of mixing all up, putting the japanese people aside. But you still can find a lot of things related to Japan there. In there I got the opportunity to taste many Japan foods I always had the curiosity for: Gyoza, Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Miso Soup, Ramen and of course, Pocky!! And many different types of Pocky: Chocolate, strawberry, crunchy chocolate and crunchy strawberry. Hehe..:P Liba is a great source of Pocky. Now, if you go to Liba to find anime/manga related stuff, your place is SoGo Plaza Shopping.
It has 3 floors full of stores dedicated to anime and manga. Most stores contain gashapons (anime action figures), DVDs (from animes, tokusatsu, music artists, films, live actions and dramas), mangas (a lot of them), and minor accessories such as clothes and keyrings. Below are some pictures of products me and my sister took while in there:
Like I said it's really fun. It's worth to check if you are the "Otaku" kind of person. That's it of Liba for now. Maybe I can add some other stuff such as food places around there. Comments, anyone?

    Bleach Fans VS Incarnate

It's been all over otakus' blogs, everywhere in every corner of the internet. Bleach fans have been outraged to learn that the comic has apparently been the subject of shameless plagiarism in the American comic book “Incarnate” by Nick Simmons.

The news has spread very quickly among the fans, and Facebook users start to make a group page "calling for legal action against Nick Simmons for plagiarism of other works." Simmons is also alleged to be freely helping himself to scenes from Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, NANA, Dogs, and others. Meaning Incarnate isn't made of only one manga, but several. He has yet to offer any comment on the matter [UPDATED] For more scenes, visit animeclick.it (please note that it's not an English site, but you'll get more scenes from both Bleach and Incarnate) More stories (including updates) are available in ANN .

Japanese Innuendos: Are they really dangerous?

I was checking some news about a site criticizing a japanese game for its highly suggestive dialogues, which were labeled as innuendos. I know that it isn't probably too fine to talk about it, since there may be people under age visiting here, but I decided to discuss about how these kind of stuff is present in many things and sometimes we don't even notice. The innuendos,  to anyone who doesn't know what it means, it's a kind of insinuation, mostly sexually related or just suggesting some kind of romance or desire. For some personal reasons, japanese commercial area tends to show that (a lot). You can see them clearly in animes, noticing the big breasts of girls (some even highly exaggerating XD), some partial nudity scenes and some situations like the famous Hot Springs, where guys are always eager to peek/end up peeking on the girls naked. Well, thing is, almost all animes have this kind of thing added, in some just a tiny thing and in others a lot. And seeing that most that are directed to children also contain these kind of scenes, it intrigues me if it's any good to make these influences over kids. Of course, older people like me usually don't care about it, already knowing what it means and all. But for children to watch this it may be as bad as violence. Anyway, I just wanted to hear your opinions on this matter, and I'll probably post this subject on forums later. Below are some examples of these innuendos: two pictures, of Maya Natsume from Tenjho Tenge and of Tsunade from Naruto, and a video showing a scene of Ar Tonelico. Just a reminder: The following files don't contain any nudity or anything considered profanity or inappropriate, but their content are highly suggestive. You have been warned.
